This previous listing of ours is a great example of the beautiful character homes found in the Old City of Nanaimo.
Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter is part of the original economic core of the city. Buildings in the area date from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The Old City Quarter has undergone a revitalization of heritage buildings along with the addition of new developments which complement the period architecture. A revitalization program in the early 1980’s attracted upmarket retailers.
Since the early 2000’s we have seen a steady increase in the renovations that have gone into this area and now the area is vibrant and filled with families. There are so many fantastic restaurants and pubs that fill the area plus lots of great shopping spots to fill a weekend afternoon. Some of our favorite dining spots are Penny’s Palapa, which is a floating Mexican restaurant in the inner harbour, Gabriels Cafe, New York Style Pizza and The Nest Bistro. Shopping favorites include The Flying Fish for casual browsing of furniture, house wares and knickknacks and NYLA Fresh Thread – a destination men’s clothing shop that is worth the trip.
