Welcome To Beautiful Old City Quarter
Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter is part of the original economic core of the city. Buildings in the area date from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The Old City Quarter has undergone a revitalization of heritage buildings, along with the addition of new developments which complement the period architecture. A revitalization program in the early 1980s attracted upmarket retailers.
Since the early 2000s, we have seen a steady increase in the renovations that have gone into this area. Now, the area is vibrant and filled with families. As you explore the area, you will discover many fantastic and unique restaurants and pubs. Some of our favourite dining spots are Penny’s Palapa – a floating Mexican restaurant in the inner harbour, Gabriels Cafe, New York Style Pizza, and The Nest Bistro. In addition to the great food, there are also many amazing local shopping spots. Shopping favourites include The Flying Fish for casual browsing of furniture and housewares. You will also come across Quintessentials, which is a great women’s clothing store with trendy pieces and classic accessories. There is also NYLA Fresh Thread – a destination men’s clothing shop that is definitely worth the trip.
